I think the bridge pickup sounds quite warm although sounding a bit thinner on video than than it does to me live. I thought it was pretty good on this snippet of My Forbidden Lover by Chic, featuring the great Bernard Edwards. I will record it with both pickups for comparison too. Both pickups is definitely a fatter sound, but that is to be expected. I think either one sounds good for that bassline.

I prefer the bridge pup for that particular tune. It's closer to Bernard's tone.
You're making me remember why I played a Stingray exclusively for over 22 years.
Think I'll have to get another. :)

Yes, Bernard’s Stingray was a perfect mix of brightness and bottom. My Jazz sounds good, but can’t match that Stingray girth.

P Cheen Alembics and parametric mid knobs scare me.

Love that bridge tone! This is why I prefer 70s style J pickups even if the bass doesn’t have 70s pickup spacing!

Both sound nice!! That back pickup sounds fuller than I expected.
Keep showing us what this bass can do. These Geddy models sound great.

In the case of my Geddy, it has Seventies pickups and Seventies spacing.

Yes, and I'm not sure but Bernard may have used flats on a 2EQ Stingray which had way less sizzle. It's a tone I covet.

I am pretty sure Bernard Edwards used flats. If not, they were the deadest rounds in history.

Sounds awesome as usual Doc! Are those the stock Fender rounds on it?

Both pickups on will result in a mid-scooped sound. To me, that’s a thinner sound than either pickup soloed. But I understand everyone’s definition of a fat tone is different.

I usually use a four channel Behringer combination keyboard amp and PA. Behringer claims it is 600w, but I am guessing it is really 200w.

    K. Just wondering why your setup sounds so good, and mine sounds so bad.. :). I'm using my GK 1001RB-II and 410SBX plus cab, but it's the naseliest, brittlest sounding amp I've ever heard. I don't know what possessed me to get it, when was it, 20 years ago.

It could be my hearing too, where everything sounds kind of lousy when I'm sitting in front of it nowadays. Through headphones tho, things are fine, but I dunno. Everything can't sound lousy, so maybe it's my deef ears :).

But your Geddy is inspiring me to fix the tone on my jaco. :)

Since I can't buy new ears, I'm getting my mask and going down to the local GC for a set of rounds for it, since it might just be the flats it has on it. They sound great on the neck PU, but on the bridge PU, my Tony Franklin just runs rings around it tone-wise....

Change your strings, it might be an easy fix.

If my bridge sounded like that, I would use it WAY more often! I am ignorant about Geddys... Is the neck profile different than your garden variety Jazz bass? I heard someone say it was thinner.

Mine is an American Geddy Lee which has a more standard size neck, but has the vintage voiced pickups.

I just put on a set of d'addario medium rounds, which helped the tone considerably. But I also just finished the nut on my Tony Franklin and now my fingers are too beat up to play it. :)

But I'm pretty sure it was the flats. They're designed for thump, not pop.. :)
