How could THIS bass be selling for only $280?!? It has a Quilted top, back, and sides and a real mother of pearl custom inlay, plus it's acoustic/electric! Has anyone tried one of these? It seems to me that if a bass like this is selling for $280 (there are a few on ebay), it must suck, but you can never tell until you play one. I'm looking to buy an acoustic bass and this one would be great if the sound is decent, so, if you've played one or own one, I would really appreciate any info you have on it. Thanks!

$280 thats it! That thing looks awsome, I've been looking into an acoustic also. Seems like a good choice based on the looks, but i've never heard one.

I don't know how MK basses rate, but I can relate that there are similar deals available in Michael Kelly mandolins. (Mandolins are INCREDIBLY expensive, BTW...good ones, anyway). They're imports, and they make equally nice-looking mandolins for equally low prices. I checked a couple out recently.

The verdict? Fit only for firewood.

Well, maybe the basses are better, I dunno. I'd at least check one out. Lots of companies make one instrument well and others that suck. Gibson comes to mind here....

  6. Hey Mike! Long time! (we were gonna trade my SWR Redhead for your SVT-3 Pro about five years ago!). Anyhow, Gibson makes TWO good instruments.....

    Jerome! Howdy!

Actually, Gibson makes more than one good instrument. Their bluegrass pieces, banjos and mandolins are widely considered top of the heap. I just ain't crazy about their basses.

Sorry to commandeer your thread, guys... :D

No problem, thanks for the reply. Do you know where I could try one out (what stores carry them)?

For $280.00, I think I'd spring for one.

I thought maybe they just left a zero off of that price, like it was $2800 or something. I paid about 2600 for my Martin.

A good acoustic electric bass that would be in roughly that price range would be the Dean Performer bass. Stay away from the Plus or 5 plus, but the normal Performer acoustic bass can't really be beat for about $350. Last year around Christmas, I sold close to a dozen of them.

  12. That is truly the ugliest bass ever.

I have the 5 String version. If you get one I have some setup tips for you. They are worth every penny and then some.
