Tell him to think over the fact that to get the overdriven or distorted sound he wants, usually he'll want to drive the guitar amp - definitely the preamp and sometimes also the power amp section - into distorsion. Otherwise he'll just get clean sounds. To do this he will have to play so loud you will most likely not be able to be in the same room! Many guitarists go the opposite direction - get a tube amp with less power so it's possible to get that overdriven sound on decent levels.

Oh yeah he was also talking about running 2 812 cabs off the 300 watt tube head.

What the heck... Why is he limiting himself to just two? I mean, sheesh. Just 16 12" speakers???

    Dang...

Pick, maybe you should turn down a bit. I would hate to see you drowned out your poor deprived guitar player.

  10. We have the same problem with our lead guitarist.

    He's using a Peavey 5150 head through 2 4x12"s.
And everyone in the band thinks it's too loud.
It just suck in our practice room.

    I on the other hand have a Trace Elliot 500w throug 2x15"s and a Merlin 600w through a 4x12"s.

    But nobody complained. :)

But I can only ste my master volume at 2.

  11. I second that. Minus the "my friend" part.

It's either ignorance or bullploppy and knowing guitarists a bit of both.

When I'm in guitar mode I use a 15w combo and earplugs.

Any guitarist that feels he needs to use more than 4 12's for club gigs either

    A. Has more money than he knows what to do with

    B. Is making up for the time he didn't have lifting dead weights and working out, so he's catching up by carrying cabs.

    C. Is having trouble understanding the acoustical diffferences between Shea Staduim and the VFW he's gigging at this weekend.

    D. Is making up for a small penis

He already has a 100 Watt marshall head and 2 412 cabs. He says he needs more headroom.
