I really like the new mini U-Bass travel size basses. But the prices are outrageous. So, I built this half-size bass for under $80. Sounds and plays amazing for the size. Here's the whole build: http://www.instructables.com/id/Build-A-Half-Size-Travel-Bass-Guitar
When I posted the instructible, they changed my intro photo. I tried to fix it, but the site won't allow me to edit it. More issues with technology.
Very cool! I've seen those round blanks at Home Depot and have wondered how they'd be for a body. By the way, what's the scale length?
It's standard tuning with standard gauge round wounds - 45 - 105. I'd like to get a set of nylon strings. I thought the string tension would be tight, but the strings have good vibration with a lot of bass.
