My Hawai'ian Koa...maybe on a Rob Allen?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by frederic b. hodshon, Jul 2, 2004.

  1. visited Hawai'i last year, picked up some koa.

    possible application?

here's how the piece looks now:

i have 2 other bookmatched pieces with veneer for matching headstocks.

  2. Looks great with the R. Allen shape.

How would it look with the top upside down?
  3. That's a gorgeous piece of wood! Is that what we bassists do now? Go on vacation and pick up some nice, native wood while we're there? hehe

So you bought wood for a bass on vacation. Answer me this: Did you visit any local music stores?
  7. nope.

  8. You did it really quickly, impressive...:hyper:
I really prefer that way! Don't you???

i can't believe after all this time i'm finally getting an MB-2 again.

    glory days!

spoke to Rob tonight, he has some killer koa pieces partially built up, so i'm gonna go with one of those.

Rob is a master at picking gorgeous tops. epecially koa!

  13. i kinda want tortoise or black binding around the body and headstock.

    this one looks killer!!!

i'm not much for the white binding.

this is a new level of insanity for me. i've got an MTD 635 on the way, and i'm already jonsing (sp?) for another bass!

  14. That would make a fine top for your next Sadowsky, don't you think?? ;)

  15. i think this calls for the world's first LIGHTWAVE rob allen!

    ...with a WHAMMY BAR!

    I like the tortoise myself.

And I kinda consider the MB2 as a must have. I'm very much attached to mine. ;)
