My Jazz made of ... pinewood!

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Sorefinger, Mar 6, 2008.

  1. Here´s something you don´t see every day - a Jazz with a pinewood body (maple/rosewood neck, Schaller pickups and hardware):

    Brodtrager.

I got this bass second-hand for cheap - made by a local luthier here in Vienna about 20 years ago. The neck is not in great shape and I can´t get the action quite as low as I like, but other than that it´s a killer bass. It sounds massive - punchy, growly, funky, fat. With a set of Chromes, it can do anything from old school to finger funk, even does a credible double bass impersonation.

The body wood looks just like the dining room table we had when I was a kid. Brings back pleasant memories. :smug:

  3. Pinewood makes me think of cheesy 70's wood cladding and saunas D:

Would like to hear it though!

i think that would look killer with a burst finish and a matching veneer headstock.

  5. Doesn't Nordstrand make a single cut out of pine, I like it.

Pine's pretty nice looking, but definitely easier to ding up than any of the hardwoods. Relic'ing is one thing, but that would be quite another. To each his own.

  7. pinewood reminds me little cars going down ramps
