I bought my new bass about a month ago, but have only gotten around to developing these photos now. Some of you may know about this bass because I got it from World of Strings in Long Beach, and I found it mentioned on this site in a couple of threads. It's a 1934 Hawkes Concert model and has a label that reads "Boosey & Hawkes" instead of "Hawkes & Son". I guess this was the transitional period when the two companies were joined. The bass sounds totally amazing compared to my other bass which is a 1920's-ish Juzek. BTW, if you ever get a chance, check out World of Strings. They have a great shop down there and Jon is a lot of fun to talk shop with. Oh yeah, they've got a ton of basses.
It is indeed very big Going from my small 3/4 Juzek to this 7/8 body has been a bit of a challenge, but the neck has been reset and is suprisingly easy to get around. Let's just say that I sit while playing this bass a lot more than I did with the Juzek. I'll take some measurements when I get the bass back home tonight...
Purty! Someone has to invent a device that allows us to reach into our monitors and play these things....
that bass looks very killer.....me likey. it looks huuuuuuge in the side pic, that neck looks tiny for that big ole body.
Great find. I played that bass at WOS and was impressed but it needed a better setup. I was suprised at the low price too. It was a good buy. I'm kicking myself for not asking Jon to set it up for me. -Jon
Hah... that reminds me of a lead-in I once heard on a computer show on the radio; "357 Magnum...the original point 'n click interface"....
