i bought me a brand new cab yesterday, to upgrade from the SWR Goliath Jr and Carvin 115 I'd been using - an Ashdown I've been eyeballing for literally years. Paid $400 for it after talking the store owner down from $700. It's a really nice cabinet, has 1 15, 2 10s, and a tweeter, all bluelines, nice wire mesh grill and buffalo hide surface - standard Ashdown sexiness. Bought it new, but with no documentation, packaging, or anything. Looking at the back, it has the three way horn switch for high, off, and low level settings, and on the id plate, it has the following information (all written in): Model: BP 1510 Serial: .... Impedance: 8 Ohms Power: 600 Watts So, I went looking for more info on line to see what I could see. Thing is, the only model that looks even remotely similar in build and specs is still very much not the same model, the ABM BP 1510TX. The handles are a different shape, and the specs are a bit different, primarily: Impedance: 4 Ohms Power: 650 Watts Additionally, they don't even make the TX any more, it can only be found in the Legacy series on their website. http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/detail.asp?ID=16 Anybody know what's up? Do I have the same model, or a different model that isn't documented? I'm not complaining or anything, I LOVE Ashdown gear, but I kinda want to know what my limits are since I have the nasty habit of destroying nice things and blowing speakers. I am running my 1980-era Peavey Mk VI through it by the way, until I find out more info and can get a suitable Ashdown head for it.
You might be wiser to take the item back and either have the store you bought it from give you the info you need or a refund. You get what you pay for.....there is a reason the guy took $300 off the price. I would find out.
I assumed it was because all his Ashdown stuff never moves. Literally been there for years. Everybody out here has eyes only for Peavey, Carvin, Ampeg, and, Behringer, and GK.
If you notice on the bottom of that page it says Ashdown reserves the right to alter specifications without notice. this page is most likely from the latest model, you may have bought an older model with different specs. If it produces good sound and you're happy with it then I wouldn't worry about it.
Yea, I noticed that too. I just shot them off an email with the serial number and such to see if they could give me up to date info. just figured I'd ask here too in case anybody had a similar model.
Ashdown and others often had 4-ohm and 8-ohm versions of the same model. Musiciansfriend used to sell Ashdown ABM cabs and you could select either 4-ohm or 8-ohm for the same price.
Great score. For that price, you have a great cab that will serve you well. You probably want a more powerful amp to get the most out of it
Soon as I can get one, I am going to try for a Mag 300. Gotta pay for transmission repairs first though.
Ok, I was looking around, and I am finding I really like the look of the Klystron 500. Anybody have any experience with it? And the only place I can find one (they've been discontinued) is at bassemporium.com. Anybody have any experience with them? I'd appreciate comments on both topics.
Great amp. I think you'd be very happy if the price is right Be aware that you'll only draw about 280 watts out of that amp with your cab
Explain? I'm not really a great electronics understander. And Ashdown got back with me today and said it was 4Ohms and 650 watts - the only cab they ever made was the TX version so something is amiss on the serial plate.
If it is hand written, maybe the original info got rubbed off or removed somehow and was rewritten from memory? If it is an 8ohm cab, your amp will give about 60% of its power output. 2 8ohm or one 4ohm cab will get the full power of the amp 500 watts at 4ohm. Some of the ashdown amps bumped the power to 575watts but still called it the 500. You could take out the speakers and see what ohm is stated on them. try removing the back plate of the cab first and shine a flashlight in and see if you can see anything written on the speakers
