My new compressor

Discussion in 'Effects [BG]' started by cubeenz, Sep 16, 2001.

  1. I got my dbx 266XL Compressor/Gate. I love it so far. Does exactly what I needed it to. But I have one problem. When I play a note, loud and low, I get some static in my sound. Like a popping that modulates with the string vibration somewhat. I was wondering if it was maybe my cheap patch cables in my effects loop, but it doesn't do it when I bypass the Compressor. I have messed with all the settings and can't get anywhere with the problem. Could it possibly be some sort of grounding problem? Any ideas to help me along my way. Could it be the compressor itself? Like maybe a fluke that I should replace... hmmm... help me please..

You may be overdriving the input of the compressor. Try reducing the gain. If that doesn't help, try using the other channel of the compressor, if that does help, take it back and get another one.
