Here is the bass I have waited 15 years to play!! It's an 8-string fretted Conklin Sidewinder with passive electronics and no external controls (except for the kill switch and pickup selector on the back). With it's 25 fret fingerboard, it has an even 5 octave range. The woods are as follows: - walnut for the body wings - wenge for the wing tops and headstock cap - maple and purpleheart for the neck - ebony for the fretboard It is an absolute dream...! p.s. - My special thanks to John Turner and all the cats who answered my post for dynamic control on multistring basses. You were right: I can do everything on it that I do on my sixes, but more of it! If you get the chance, live your dreams!
Alright then, here are some responses... Thank you! It is indeed an amazing instrument. I will get you guys some better pix as soon as I can. It does have the low F# tuning. I'm actually heading in to do some recording today, so you'll have something to check out soon. And for what it's worth, saying I'm enjoying it doesn't even come close to what I'm feeling. I am in absolute hog heaven. I played somewhere between 6 and 7 hours yesterday, and today's barely begun. If any of you are in New Orleans, keep an eye and an ear out for me... Take care, everyone, Stew
