Hello all, just wanted to jump on here real quick and let you know that my new D. Huff custom bass is being shipped today. I know, I know, why should you care? Well, because I'm excited! Some of you have probably seen Darrin post around here before, and he takes part in the Lutheir Corner forum as well.

Anywho, thought I'd share some shots of my bass, taken just before being stuck in a box and sent to me... yeehaw! If you are interested in seeing the bass as it progressed, check out http://www.dhuffguitars.com under Casey's Bass.

  2. Beautiful! Is that a custom built bridge?

Yep, that's a custom hand-machined bridge. Damn near killed the poor guy, he swears he won't do it again until he gets a CNC machine.

  4. That's a freakin' nice bass! Enjoy!

Cool bridge! Kinda completes the asthetic with the scroll and all.

Wow! It's really really nice! How much is it (if I can ask)? The bridge is cool, though...

Dreadhead, his basses start at $1500 without the carved scroll. I think my bass would run between $2000-2500 and considering the amount of detail, that's a steal.

What are the details that increased the price?

The multi-laminate body, hand made bridge and binding on the headstock are the primary 'extras'. The Z-series (which is the carved scroll like mine) starts at $2K, so mine wasn't much more at $2,250. $2,500 would be a multi-laminate 'racing stripe' style neck. The R-series (non carved scroll) is $1500, so the price difference is mainly the amount of work that goes into hand carving that scroll.

... sorry, I didn't notice the continuous backplates... what's the delivery time for a beast like that?

Build time is about 4-6 months. However, I believe that right now he's so swamped with orders that he may not be taking any at this point. You could e-mail him though, if you want a little more specifics.

    Thanks for the kind words!

Not at all! I LOVE exotic looking basses. Mine is a little more normal looking ;)
Check it! It's proud to show its Warwick blood...

Wow! That bass is crazy! I love the wood, 'specially the pickup covers. Did you make that? How is the balance?

  17. Dude, that is an amazing bass. It makes me want to check out Huff's work even more, although by the time I'll be able to afford one he'll have jacked up his prices...

The top/pickup covers wood is Ovangkol. The bass was made for me by an ex Warwick luthier. He was the custom shop chief... his basses have special pickups (custom wounded) that deliver JUST the sound of the wood, without adding eletronics/pickups sound. I'm actually selling a 4 strings on eBay.

... I forgot to say that the balance is just great, and the bass is a little heavy but have a sustain that kills you... the bridge pickup sound is JACO on steroids!

  20. Cooler than cool. Tell us how it plays and sound when it arrives! If it's anywhere near its' good looks, well... :D
    Enjoy!
