Picked up a used Elrick e-volution singlecut 6-string about a week and a half ago. I first saw it for sale used a year ago, and was able to pester the current owner, a new TB member, into selling it to me. It’s resulted in the strangest thing: my Elrick singlecut 5-string has been in its case since the new six got here.

I’ve owned that one for almost five years now, and I’ve never found a bass that fit me as well as it does or plays as nicely as it does (and I’ve owned a couple dozen nice basses, including lots of other great Elricks). This one kicks booty. Has a bunch of unique features for an Elrick as well. Here’s a list:
    34" scale
    Mandolin frets
    Ziricote top
    Mahogany body
    Paduak veneers
    Three-piece maple neck
    Macassar ebony fingerboard
    Walnut tone block
    Zero fret
    Extended B headstock
Strings-through body option on B and E strings
    Radiused ebony ramp
Bartolini J pickups in a custom location
    Bartolini NTMB preamp

I loved the old Elrick e-volution 6-string I used to own but was forced to sell, but the shorter 34” scale and the slightly tighter string spacing at the nut makes this one more comfy.

It has the extended B headstock, obviously based off of Fodera’s extended B. And yes, it does nothing to increase the tension of the B string. Nor do the string-through-body holes on the B and E strings (ala Warrior). But hey, I didn’t have to pay for them, and the bass still has a fantastic B, so I’m fine either way :D It came strung with medium gauge Elixers, which are actually pretty nice (I usually use light gauge Foderas or DR Hi-Beams). The bass sounds great- I thought it would be honky based on the pickup configuration, but it’s very even all around with a bit more emphasis on the lows (Elricks are usually mostly mid-heavy). The pickups also allow for a really big ramp, which I really like. Good weight- not super-light as ash Elricks are, but not heavy either. This is the second Elrick I’ve owned that had mandolin frets, and they really are a fun way to play. The one thing about them is that your notes can cut off early if you lift your finger just slightly, so I have to get used to that again.

Here’s a couple YouTube vids and mp3s- I may post more later.

I’m far better with an Ebow on a fretless bass, but I figured I’d give it a whirl on this one. The result? Ebow flub city :D

Hey B, looks and sounds great. It really gets that Garrison sound I think. Nice score.

Pfft, he probably can do that AND make delicious pies.

  9. Very nice! I love the top, the pickup placement, and the wood selection, and the workmanship looks top-notch all around. The B-string extension is kinda :meh:, but what the heck; the bass is a real beauty, and it sounds great too; articulate, focused and clear as a bell. Congratulations!

It sure made tuning annoying the first day when I was getting used to it.

Absolutely stunning top you've got there, Bryan. Some pretty nice mahogany on the back, too. That "turbo" pickup configuration is pretty intriguing to me, as well.

  15. That is gorgeous. Elrick singlecut basses are some of the nicest around. Congratulations man. :)
