I once had impure thoughts. Oh, and I pluck my ear hair.
Finally bought Zawinul's "Faces & Places" today for the express purpose of hearing more of Mbappe and my God this guy is amazing! Silk gloves aside, dude can absolutely shred, fretted and fretless and in a variety of styles.

Does anyone know of any other recordings in which he is featured?

M'bappe was a member of the incredible french fusion band "Ultramarine", their records are OOP, and very difficult to find, but is worth looking, specially one called "De".Also another great recording is one calle"Chic Hot", with some of the same members as Ultramarine.Great Recording.I agree, this guy is incredible!.Him and other incredible Paris based bass players like Michel Alibo(Sixun), Guy N'sangue(Ponty) and Linley Marthe(current Zawinul's bass player) are really good and share a similar approach to bass playing, quite original. All these guys work and record in the african pop-jazz-funk scene of Paris.Same scene where Richard Bona comes from.Bona, M'bappe and N'sangue are from Camerun and play together in a bass trio every once in a while.Alibo is from Martinique and Marthe is from the Mauritius Islands. All of them Amazing Players!.

  7. Another guy I like is the guy who played--or still does for all I know--with Youssou N'Dour. I think his name is Habib Faye. he would be Senegalese, I guess.

  10. Etienne is a fantastic bass player. I saw him in Austria with Zawinul. The sound he gets playing the bass with his gloves is amazing. It sounds like a fretless.
