I have some Fender basses but this Fender '51 is the No1. I have not had it so long time but it will definitely stay long with me:) Admittedly, made in Japan, but better quality than my 68 Tele bass. Fender '51 P-bass, with Fender 500 V3 combo + Fender V3 115 = this is the best cheapest combination (if you like old school vintage sound)

Wow that's stunning. The color of that maple board is gorgeous. And don't be ashamed of the Japan model! I've always liked the Japan line more than the American Standards. Incredible basses.

btw, Made In Japan is not a stigma anymore hasn't been for decades really. Some of the finest workmanship comes from Japan. I'm surprised the MIJ Fenders don't cost more than some USA models.

I was really surprised by the fine wooden pieces :-/ fit (neck / body) is perfect. I do not know what they are worth in the States ... Here in Sweden I bought it from an elderly couple for $ 400. Since then I have upgraded it with Luxe cap and some new pots. I like the original pickup and I think that sounds good and is unnecessary to change.

I've never been a sunburst fan but that one looks great, especially with the black pickguard and maple fretboard.

Received a gift from Sire* (see sig)
Class act, reminds me of the long-lost '54 I learned on.

    ...BUT ?
You're surprised that a Japan made is better quality than a (presumably) US made instrument?

This is the first time an early 50's Fender has turned my eye -- I ordinarily start keeping track with the '57s if you will.
But the combination of the black pickguard and the darker sunburst finish have me thinking I just might need one of those.

Is it routed under the pickup cover?

Love the simplicity! How's the intonation with the two barrel bridge?

I've heard a common issue with this model is knocking the pickup loose if you anchor your thumb on it. Where do you play?

Congrats again on a real beauty!

I've owned more P basses than I can remember, including a few pre-CBS Fenders.

Some of the best Ps I've played or owned were Japanese, and not all of them were Fenders.

    That is a gorgeous '51!
  20. Massive gasasm right now. Congrats!!!
