  1. after waiting a few weeks, i finally picked up my new UNLINED PHENOLIC MTD Kingston neck this morning.

    just attached it.

some minor saddle and intonation setup....

not an overwhelming diff in tone, but noticeable.

    no more lines!!! YIP YIP!!!!!!!

    all pickguard!!!

    she sure is purdy.

  4. found the cable...

    SOON SOON!!!

  5. okee...

here are a few, some more at clubphoto.

BIG DIFF between the K5 and the ZON.

the Zon is still my baby.

but, the Kingston with this neck sure gives it a run!!!

still talking to JZ about my 2002 Zon.

  6. by the way...can you tell how much i've played this thing from the wear on the ebony fretboard?!?!

    oh, and...ICK......ignore my toes.

    Cool! I recogonyz that whoo-hoo...
is them the toes ya play it with?

the bass looks great! Don't you need some black tape-wounds for the whole stealth vibe? You could cap the poles wit summat and maybe the whole thing'd disappear...

With that slanted neck joint and without the pickguard it's looking more like a Sei. Pretty sweet deal you got there.

My Kingston (fretted 4, courtesy of Ryan Morris ) is in the mail. Pearl white, though :)

Oh sweet Jebus! That is BEAUTIFUL! I can't believe a Kingstong looks that nice. How's you get that black plastic in the neck pocket? Just cut some tht as handly, or what? Man, If I could do that, oh man oh man...
  10. thanks xush, geshel, and Brendan.

Brendan, that neck pocket cover came with the unlined neck.

its just thin plastic. i'm sure it would be pretty easy to make.

she sure is an eye catcher...i'm pretty friggin' stoked...$450. a real player!!!! i did a minor truss rod adjustment and got the neck fairly flat, with that and pretty low string height....this thing GRRRRRRZZZ!

i don't think MT is making the phenolic neck anymore. from what he told me, this is the only unlined neck for the Kingston out there.

    WHOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Brendan,

i'm shipping the neck to Michael Tobias.

the unlined phenolic was a trade for what the Kingston came with.

funny, i was just thinking this week about ripping the frets out of my MTD Heir 5.
what did the "trade" with Mr. Tobias cost you?
that might be a good option for me too~
  15. Looks pretty good without a pickguard! How thick is the plastic piece that covers the neck pocket? I guess that's the whole point of the pickguard, right - To cover up that spot?

big tone difference between ebony and the phenoic?
  17. Rodan: i didn't take my calipers to that little piece, but from memory, i'd say its about 1.5 millimeters (1/16"). as far as its function: definitely decorative.

SRG: the tone is different...a touch more mwahhh and grrr...

    how's that for technical?

  18. Josh,

yes, there is more "zing", especially above the 5th fret.

kinda reminds me of my old Pedulla Buzz...

but dang, if it ain't a hell of a lot punchier down low.

i've had some e-mails from people interested in buying this from me...i remembered that had a fretless Kingston 5 with a lined phenolic neck on their website for months.

now, its not even listed as sold.

    the mind reels.

Congrats of the fretless K, fhodshon. i did the same thing to a fretless k some time back- not the unlined thing, but the truss cover thing- it worked great- got an offer on it i couldnt refuse BECAUSE of the mod- but i have to admit- the unnlined looks very clean!!- enjoy!
