I must say, this has been a journey!
Started out going for a DP.. but was talked out of that (took a lot of time.. but lots of people were genuinely worried, and eventually convinced me not to). So I started looking for a new bass. I was going to get a Q4 or Q5, but then this walks through the door:
    a Nordstrand NJ4 Deluxe.
    MMMMMM mmmm!!
'Tis an excellent bass! Not that you all didnt know that already.. but yeah.
    Flame Myrtle top
    Mahogany body
    3-piece Maple neck
Pau Ferro fretboard (with a nice stripe of spalted sapwood)
    NJ4SE pups
Aguilar OBP-3 preamp w/active-passive switch and passive tone control
    Hipshot ultralites
    Hipshot Type "B" bridge
    Satin finish

Its great. I bought it from the user Blat!, who I think is relatively new.

Right off the bat I can tell you that Im still looking for my sound, though. The difference between this bass and my old one (Ibanez EDB600) is just...worlds. For one, my attack used to be pretty homogenous because the sound was so homogenous. I couldnt do too many different things with that bass other than mess with the EQ. I couldnt get many good sounds out of the EQ, so I just stuck with a few settings. Blech.
Now with my Nordstrand, I can get a whooole bunch of sounds. I dont even know the limits, yet. Now my fingerstyle actually matters a lot (I play a lot more softly now. Maybe its just new strings, but playing more aggresively doesnt sound so great), so Im happy.

Ill post a full review soon.
Of course Im sure you guys want pics... so:
Its the second bass on 8/3/04
  2. I knew you would like it. How could you not??

There is a whole lot in there... enjoy the search!

I can't even imagine the difference in experience you are having with that instead of a DP.

    DAMN beautiful bass, Congrats!!

Congratulations. You just went from being on the waiting list for a Chevette to getting yourself a Porsche.

Wow an Ibanez/DP to a Nordy. :hyper:
I own a Nordstrand SC5 and I have to say you got a
fantasic bass my friend. I have been watching the
thread for a while. I can't beleive it took so long
for that bass to sell. I hope you love your Nordie as
much as I love mine. For some reason I think you will.

BTW I have a Nordy VJ5 on order! :bassist: :)
    Check out the Nordstrand forum...

    Have fun bro....

Thats a really sweet bass! Really like the finish (and pretty much everything else about it). Hope you enjoy it and I bet it sounds as good as it looks!

Congrats, thats a sexy looking bass.

Oh, and 4/25/05 is one of the nicest looking basses Ive seen. Theyre all great, but my own taste, that grey one is gorgeous.
  13. Woaw! What aclassy bass, congrats....

Whoa! That is quite a jump, from a DP Custom to a Nordstrand.

A big, hearty congrats, from a fellow Nordie owner.:bassist:
  15. Glad you finally found the right bass after the entire DP fiasco!

That thing should keep you happy for a long, long time.
