Whoa, dude. That bass looks like it's been through a volcanic explosion. Sounds like you've got alot of work ahead of you; sounds fun!

Apparently "MIJ" is not a nice thing to say.
  4. Yet "Tex Mex" offends neither Texans nor Mexicans. Go figure. :meh:

Nice, that does seem like itd be a rewarding project once you are done.

Hes referring to the bass as MIJ(enese) made. I took it as an abbreviation.

I know, I am not a dumbass. There is (was?) a sticky called "Please people, 'MIJ' is NOT a nice word!".

    Also, it is MIJanese.

well, during ww2 it was considered a slur. like kraut.

howsabout we use "mij" to denote made in japan in future postings, mkay? :)
  9. MIJ
    Japanise or

To me they are all the same..being very unbiased i fail to see how "MIJ" can be found to be offencive...but there we are..

It is a sweeeet bass tho..and although it seems like a big job I know a top class Furniture Restorer who will do the bulk of the work for very little...He's refinishd guitars and basses before and is a dab hand at it...he spends most of his day..doin up C18th and C19th Furniture so knows wood when he sees it... :)

You can say "MIJ." but that period in front of the letters is VERY VERY important. MIJ. is an abbreviation for Japan. "MIJ" is a slur word for Japanese people.

I tried to make this point when this originally came up and was told that no, it wasn't ok. This probably isn't an issue that should be revisited since the powers that be at Talkbass have pretty much already spoken.
  12. I wonder if that was a previous "sledge-o-matic" of Gallager's. ;)

It's not about whether YOU see it to be offensive...

There are abbreaviations that we use here for good reason. I think its polite if we stick to them.
  15. Did Fender do MIJ basses in the early 70's ?

I thought MIJ was an '80's thing.......

    or a Fender copy ?
  16. All points taken.. :)

MIJ it now is from this side of the Atlantic

I have checked the Serial number and its all Legit :)

I'd be reluctant to bring up any ebay auction here that I was hoping to win. All you do is inform a bunch of other ebay bidders who may not have found the auction on their own yet. :D

No, I won't be bidding, but others might.

Good luck (in winning) and good luck with your project (should you win).

    Watch out for snipes!!!!
  18. hehehehe

A bit foolish maybe but i did have a question in my orig post...what do u reckon is a sensible cut off point...but so far no answers lol.... :)

I'll keep an eye on it...

    crept up £205 now...still...a good buy :)
