Well guys this was a test and just plain old curiosity on my end, if I screwed anything up it didnt matter I have nothing into it and could always fix it later. My little test was could a decent finish be possible in 1 day.. Here is what I learned.. If its a nice dry day where its pretty warm but low humidity lacquer will dry pretty quick notice I didnt say cure I said dry.. Next was I would never try this again EVER this was a start at 8am EST time and its now 9:45pm EST all day non stop adventure.. I waited about 20 minutes between coats. And layed all coats on THICK.. real thick.. I usually due 3 coats a day with 24hrs drying in between I waited 2.5 hrs till wetsanding the normal with lacquer is 30 days.. Surprisingly I didnt have much orange peel so it smoothed out nicely due to all the coats being layed on real thick.. hahahahaha now the key is "whats going to happen" I have never tryed this and im not sure this is good. Actually I know its not good, and I know this finish isnt my best work, but it was fun.. What do you think the outcome is going to be.. Will it just magically destroy it self due to me being a goof ball and trying to finish a bass in one day? Will it continue to be good? Its not perfect in any way, its not bad either you might be surprised at the outcome if you seen it.. But 12 hours later here is what we have, extra bonus if people can guess what I was watching.. Here it is before hand.. And after today..
Hmm... It seems that someone might have a thing for pastel shades of blue... Anyway, it looks great. Is it getting the old Relic treatment soon?
Nope... And its Seafoam Green but it was getting dark outside so when I lightened the pictures in photoshop it took on a blue-ish hue.. But its bright Seafoam Green.
Dig it man!! It's been a long week and I'm tired, but reading the title I thought you were gonna smash it or kill it based on "expirement" as in gonna expire it or past the expiration date. Just yanking your chain and bumping the thread b/c I think that looks REALLY cool and would be a sweet mod for an SX after the pickups and electronics or whatnot.
Everybody Loves Raymond. The bass looks great, too. Awesome job at knocking that out in a day. I Krylon'd a car in about 10 hours once (wash, dry, sand, wash, dry, mask, build "paint booth" in garage, paint). Yours came out much better!
Looks great brett, though I would have left the headstock bare, Ive become not-such-a-fan of finished headstocks with maple boards. But still, looks amazing for one days work.
I got it! You were watching Everybody Loves Raymond. Right? EDIT: Damn, someone beat me to it... Anyway, congrats on the finish, looks splendid to me. =)
