Sorry if this has been done a million times before, but i just had to share the story of my new 'toy'. Anyway, the other day my dad told me my uncle have him a message to tell me he had just picked up a stingray 5. My dad is not a bass player so he was just the middleman between me and my uncles 'bass communication'. The stingray cost him 1500aud, brand new due to a huge sale. I dont know how that translates in american terms but in australia thats an amazing bargain! Youll be lucky to pick up a new model for 3000. So my uncle came and visited two weeks later and brought the SR5 (in a beautiful black and maple combination) and i played it for the next couple of hours. Upon leaving he told me "i want you to borrow it for the next few months. I know it'd be a good opportunity for you to play such a beautiful instrument" So thats it, now its currently in my possesion and i played it for its first gig over the weekend. Im in love with it, it was a first of many things. My first real play of a 5 string, an active bass and such a well made american bass. I was instantly able to add the extra low notes and octaves to my basslines and i never realised how versatile a single pickup instrument could be! The SR5 is an amazing instrument and has such a variety of tones, wether it be the thump of series, the nasal punch of singlecoil of the brittle twang of parallel! Sorry for the extensive rant, but this is just such a new concept for me Oh, and excuse the bad phone photo
You got one of the best instruments ever to be build there imo! The only problem is, once you play and hear the sound, you will never even look at another bass unless it's a MusicMan
Now is the time to make your break for the US so he can't come take it back. Here everyone knows a guy who can get you signed in no time, too, so there's that.
