My Road Worn Precision is the best bass I've ever owned, and to celebrate my third anniversary with it, I thought you guys might appreciate a "then-and-now" photo: I go into much more detail about this bass, with lots of photos, here: http://www.johnbiscuti.net/#/fender-road-worn-pbass/ Everybody else still digging their Road Worn as much as me?
My 2010 Precision V (non-Road Worn) has gotten some player marks marring but not chipping the finish. I love the bass so I don't really care. It has that 'thin-skin' finish so the pearly buttons of my western shirts have made scuffing behind the bridge and rashed the back from top to bottom. It is the nicest new electric instrument I have ever owned. Playability, tone, vibe, I love this bass. With the marring, it's hard to get pics of it.
Wait. I forgot to ask, is that "honest player wear that can tell stories?" 'Cause if not, well then, "The new dinosaur is walking' in the old dinosaur's shoes!" End times.
I'm having a little fun. These are the best MIM bass to come out of the Ensenada plant. Mine before and after...
That's a great example of why the nitro Fenders ended up looking the way they do. (the very-played ones that is) The neck amber'd to that classic 'vintage' tint, and the "honest" wear shown is adding/expanding the 'fabricated' wear very nicely. This kind of continuum would not be possible with the current poly-epoxy finishes that are incredibly hard/durable.
Looking good! Just one question, have you moved the neck a bit? Your strings aren't alligned in the center of your fretboard (G string closer to the edge). Kind of an OCD thing that I've developed lately
The shadow of that sticker will be on there forever. Since you are apparently okay with that, it seems like a small step to drill the extra holes for the new pickguard screws, especially since they will be covered up if you go back to aluminum. Beautiful bass.
wow Ive had mine for about 3 years now too. Its also the best bass ive owned. I put a black pickguard and have the ashtray cover. Not big on the pup cover i like to have that free to play.
I love hearing these testimonies - puts the (artificial) distressed nay-sayers to bay. If I didn't own the '66 (above w/Grolsch button-locs) I would definitely get one! Rock them all will a big smile!
