We have to practice it a lot this summer...

So far, I know we are doing "Hot For Teacher" by Van Halen... and "Schools Out for Summer" by Alice Cooper, and some other song that I forgot...

I am on Aux. percussion playing the drum rack... Tom's, snare, cymbal's, etc...

We only have the music for HFT, and I am already semi-scared.

The song is at 232 tempo, and in 12/8... but we still have to count it 1-2-3-4 because HFT has crap loads of triplets, and those are apparently easier to write in 12/8 for some reason...

    But anyways...

    This show is gonna rock...

I've always thought that marching bands playing pop tunes were kinda ridiculous. And I used to be in marching band myself (sousaphone). A few months ago I stumbled across an old videotape from high school where my marching band was playing "St. Elmo's Fire" and "Maniac" from Flashdance (yeah, I'm 35 now, that stuff used to be in the top 10). I just shook my head in shame. The traditional "marching" music sounded much better and respectable, in retrospect. Much better to stick with actual "marching band" style music, in my opinion.

And don't get me started about how ridiculous it is to see someone playing an electric bass on the sidelines while the band marches . . .

I've always thought Dancing Men would make a great marching band song.

Hey Mike-how big your marching band? We're 156 members strong plus the color guard. We did jazz shows for the past 2 years and this year it's not jazz but it's music that makes my jaw drop. Thats all

I'm in a marching band that's got about 150 members, and we're doing Stravinski's Firebird Suite. Should be pretty cool.

we start practicing in August, but we've already got our music. I play mellopone.

I forgot to mention I was in marching band freshman year of high school. we were about 260 strong and tore it up IM(not so)HO. I watched the movie drumline yesterday and it made me reminisce about the good ol' marching band days.

ahh the good 'ol marching band days of 2 years ago. I quit after my sophomore year. They're playing Tommy this year, which is really cool, but of course I'm not on bass, because another guy's brother used to be on drumline so he got that gig. He doesn't play the shows at football games though. As for a bassist on the marching field, I've always wanted to see one with a wireless marching on the field with the band. I'd get a big kick out of that.

We are something like 87... or maybe that was how many horns... i dunno... over 100.

The bass player, like me, is in pit... He is in with the marimba's and tempani and all that good stuff. And this kid is good... I hate him for being so good. But we are both really smart because we joined pit and we do not have to march... hell ya.
