    Greetings All:

I felt like sharing, since it's the popular thing to do.
I comissioned Chris Stambaugh to build this bass for me about 6-7 months ago. I've sat and looked at several of the beautiful creations that Fodera, Benavente, Nordstrand, etc have come up with, but I couldn't afford to buy from any of them (with the options that I wanted). So I had heard great things about the work that Chris Stambaugh does, so I talked with him and we set out to start this bass. I sent him the sketches of the bass and the way I wanted it to look (one of the advantages of stambaugh as he really makes things custom for you, with his own flavor of course). So since that day 6.5 months ago, I've been waiting anxiously for the bass and any word of its completion. I would nag Chris for details every week and he's been wonderful about it. Chris is an absoulte great guy to deal with. Anyway... here it is.

    The Specs:

    Stambaugh Singlecut 5 String
    Mahogany Wings
Maple Burl Top on the Wings (Dyed)
    Figured Maple Center
Maple & Bubbinga 5 piece neck
Macassar Ebony Fretboard - 24 Frets
Mother of Pearl Block Inlays with "Poon" on the 12th Fret
Aero Dual Coils with 2 sets of matching Pickup Covers
Bartolini NTMB-3 Coil Taps for Single Coil/Dual Coil and Mid Selector
    Ebony Knobs
Hipshot Hardware (Type A Bridge with String Thru Body and Bridge Thru Option & Ultralite Tuners)
    Oil Finish

This is the evolution of the bass...

& Finally a shot of today

    Initial Impression

The bass has outstanding construction. The fretwork is incredible, the attention to detail is mind boggling. The balance is superb, one of the best i've ever tried if not the best. The sound has a lot of flexibility. I haven't really had a chance to listen to all of the sounds and really play around with it since I've had it a few hours, but from what I can tell, I love it!
  2. Wow. That is officially the nicest looking Stambaugh I've seen yet

    That Maple Burl is gorgeous!!!

Jeebus christ that is pure hotness. I'm kinda anxious to see what Chris thinks of this design I got in the works.

Someone told me I should name it Rudolph because it looks like a reindeer :p
  10. That is one BEAUTIFUL bass you have there!
    That top... :D
    Congradulations! :)
I was wondering if you could put a picture of the 12th fret inlay up
I'm curious to see what it looks like because in the pictures it looks like another block inlay

    Hope you enjoy it!

  11. Oh yeah. Just noticed the inlay. Nice touch

    Kovachian: I'd name it Vacuum.

Poon: wonderful. I dont really dig singlecuts, but that one does it for me!
  13. I don't normally dig singlecuts, but thats amazing.
You better sleep with one eye open :ninja:
edit: *** Toasted? You stole my thoughts!

Seriously, I posted that and I find that he used the same damn phrase. :D
  14. I didn't notice that the inlay was there either...
Nevermind, you don't have to post a picture of it, its already there :smug:

I agree, very nice touch there! :)

Hey Poon, That's hot! Congrats on a real beauty!

That describes my Stambaugh as well. Chris is amazing isn't he?

I had chris make me two sets of pickup covers. I have the other set in the case. The other set are Dark (maple burl in the same dye). Chris really liked the look of the light pickup covers better and I really like it. So that's what we decided would go on the bass, however I do have the option of switching them out... :D

I designed the body shape and chris adjusted it slightly to sort of represent a collaborative effort between the two of us...i'm happy with the outcome. Thanks for the compliment too.
