I have only started playing bass recently and my bass is only about 5 weeks old. I know this because 1. somebody told me they sound to metallic 2. and from all the people i have heard playing bass their strings dont sound metallic they sound smooth. Is this becuase the strings havent been used enough yet or is it that i need better strings because mine are only beginner ones?

    All help is appreciated

Any roundwound string has a metallic tone when fresh. After some time of playing they start losing that quality. Now, if you definitely don't want your bass to sound like that, maybe you should consider switching to flatwounds.

    This thread may also help.

Might try nickel wound if your using steel.... a little less "bitey" and as the others have said....ground wound or flat will definateley give you a less metallic sound.
