My Tech21 AC adapter died. Can I buy a generic replacement?

  1. I'm using my BOSS AC adapter now. No problems at all but I was wondering if these things are standard? Can I buy one of these at any electronics store? I think they go for $25 CDN at the music store.

    Here's what the thing says:

    Tech 21 New York City
    Class 2 Transformer
    Model No. DC2

    Input: 120 VAC 60Hz 5W
    Output: 9 VDC 100mA

So can I order a Class 2 Transformer from any store? Do I need to specify a specific jack?

Yes. Just make sure you got voltage, polarity right, and a decent enough mA handling.

Watch out with those Boss adaptors : I almost grilled the chip in one of my Korg pedals by mistakenly plugging one into it.

The Tech21 is prolly strong enough to take it, but it's not the right output so it's not ideal.
  4. I think I identified the voltage and mA. What is the polarity?

Usually there's a pic on the plug, something like this

    - (* + , meaning minus @ the ring and + @ the tip (or vice versa).

From the Tech 21 SABDDI Manual:

"Use DC Power supply only! Failure to do so may damage the unit and void warranty. DC Power specifications:

    - 9V DC regulated or unregulated, 100mA minimum;
    - 2.1mm female plug, center negative (-).

Optional factoy power supply is available: Tech 21 Model #DC2"

Your Boss should be fine, or a Danelectro, or an Ibanez... Tech 21 is one of the only companies that don't have kittens if you use someone elses wall wart.

I think a trip to Radio Shack and about $15.00 to $16.00 would solve all of your problems. ;)
