Well, the friendly guy in the big white truck pulled up today and presented me with my first Zon. I ordered a Vinny VB4 back in May and it's finally here.

    Specs:
    - Zon Vinny VB4
    - Alder Body, California Walnut Top
    - 24 fret
    - Barts w/3-band active pre
    - Headless, of course
    - Weight = Freaking light
    - Incredible action out of the box.

I have to say that way beyond pleased. With only an hour's worth of mileage, I must say I'm in love. The best thing is that it's so small it'll go wherever I do, including planes. I think I'll have to order a matching fretless and maybe a 5er now.

    Hats off to Joe.

I like everything but the Zon inlayed into the walnut.

    Very cool though.

Man that is sweet! I loved the Vinnie I played last year, very solid sounding. That thing should be bombproof no matter where you travel ... barring Iraq of course.

I'm with you on that one...I think it's a bit cheesy, but with no headstock, I guess you have to throw a logo on it somewhere.

  8. Huh, another RI'er.

    That makes like....7 of us.

I believe it's a decal. I don't like it either, but I'll live with it.

It's so...cute :D I saw Manring tear it up live on his once, so I know they have a big sound for a little bass.

BTW, there's lots of Connecticut TBers too :)

Joe could do a Zon inlay at the 12th fret...that'd be cooler... :)

    Howdy neighbor.

Actually, I watched the Bass Day '98 video about a year ago, where Manring used his Vinny to play 'Sugar'. I was really impressed with the tone and did some research. Not one review or comment was negative about this model. Everyone loved theirs, so I decided to take the plunge.

The Vinny is 'cute', but you're right, the sound is huge AND versatile. It's everything I expected.

Do you have to use dbl-ball strings on it?

I haven't seen one of those since that Bass Day video. Didn't Manring have his tuned ADGC?

I think that a DGCF (up a m7 from standard) with a trem-bar would be hip too.

Somehow, you don't have to use those type of strings on this headless design.
