Mystery Fender Jazz...need help indentifying!

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by dereksilloway, Jul 22, 2012.

  1. Ok guys I was at my local GC today and they had this interesting Fender Jazz 5 string bass that im super interested in but I need to find more info. I wanna know what it was I was playing.
Here's a description as best I remember it can you help me?

Flat black body and matching headstock.
    No pickguard
4 (or possibly 5) tone controls. One stacked knob on the bottom, with a toggle switch. Active electronics.
Small open gear schaller type tuners (4 on 1 arrangement)
and here is the most distinctive thing I remember.
The neck is HUGE! super wide neck with a big string spacing. When I say this neck was wide I mean it felt like the neck on my 6 string.
The logo, I believe was grayish. Just said Fender Jazz Bass.
Manager at GC said it was Korean made.

Can you help me? I think I may have found my dream jazz! Thanks!
  2. If it plays well and the price is right, you already know all you need to know. I have no clue what model it is, but if it's your dream bass, GET it.

  5. Bobster that is totally it!!!!! Anyway, thank you for solving that so quickly!

Pilgrim, they want 400 for it which isnt horribly expensive but I wanted to find out more if im spending that kind of money on an unknown.

Flaked...I know that one, I already got one!

Thanks again guys! That was way quicker than I expected!
  6. I think when these were getting sold off cheaper as fender was getting rid of them; i piad 330$ for a new 4 string black one . I would try to get it a tad cheaper, probably 350$.
