At the song "Stream Of Consciousness" you hear natural overdrive bass sound about 5:22 .

I have some pedals like Bosses ODB-3 , GEB-7 , CEB-3 , CS-3 and Hartke Bass Attack pedal .My amp is laney 120 watt has 1x15 cabinet I dont know which model is .it's old laney.

I tried some combinations but couldnt find a tone like this .

Anybody has an opinion? because this tone is the overdrive tone i'm looking for.

It's his tube Preamps. He overdrives them, so it's a natural overdrive.

The setting I use on my Guv'nor is:
    Gain: 3 o'clock
    Bass: Cranked
    Mids: 1 o'clock
    Highs: 9 o'clock

That's funny, I asked the same question about five months ago. The answer I got was his natural tube OD from the amp, plus someone added he might be using his Hamer 8-string, which makes sense because that sound has a synthy-octave thing going on too.

I LOVE that sound and wish I could recreate it!

I know on the live version he's not. I don't know why you'd switch just for the one part of the song, seems kinda dumb to me but what do I know?

    ...what pre/amps is John using?...

    ~S~

  13. i usually crank the bass, turn up treble to taste, set the gain pretty high, but set the blend more on the clean side. the amp is set with high bass and treble, and a medium amount of mids. i crank the preamp pretty high, it doesn't quite break up, but close. the best thing to do is play in a band setting and change the settings to make them sound closer to what you want...

It sounds like a lot of low-mids to me, but I could be wrong.
