The Big Brown box rolled up and left this at my doorstep... It looks, and sounds so much better OUT of that brown box... I haven't played through it more than 5 minutes, just got it in place.... Planning on playing through it tonight...
Sweet, I've played through a few of the new models at the store, they sound great and are really light!
Okay been playing with settings. Had to stop because I figured it would be a good idea to register it / start the warranty coverage... Played a bit with the voicing buttons... I now want to play Iron Man using the Vintage voicing....
Congrats and enjoy! I have to see if any store has one around here! I'd LOVE to do a side by side comparison w/my Genz Contour! I've been reading great things about the new Rumbles!
Fwiw the light weight combined with the sound are in no small part responsible for my choice. I have a bad back so lugging a 70 lb combo won't work...
I HEAR ya Dave! I have 3 bad discs! The Contour sounds great, is loud, and not TOO heavy (48 lbs.?) but yours is lighter (a GOOD thing!). I'm going to try and get a side by side demo for sure. Good thing my wife is a saint! Let us know how you like the tone!
Seriously, so much power. People who make jokes about combos have yet to feel a 500w Rumble loosen their insides.
Sticking it in a corner isn't necessarily the best place to put it. You've got 3 boundaries within a foot (wall - floor - other wall) and it's bound to get boomy with a 9 dB boost. It won't sound the same on stage.
I'm really interested in these amps, but I can't seem to find a video of anyone playing a 5-stringer through one. Does anyone know how it handles a low B? I imagine well, but it never hurts to check. How does it fair in dialing in modern, hi-fi, slap-happy tones (I assume it's more than adequate for more vintage, rounded tones)?
It did not handle it like I would want. I have the V3 100 combo and although it only can go so loud, it does not fart with the low B. The 500 did for me and I returned it. That being said, it could just be the way I hear 210's as that config has never worked for me. Plenty of people love the combo and the new Rumbles that I have experience with sound great and are voiced very nice for a band mix.
I find the Rumbles out-of-the-box actually more modern-voiced. The Vintage switch will get vintage, rounded tones, but without it engaged the Rumble is very mid-forward and bright. The other two preset switches are geared toward more modern sounds: a treble boost and a scooped slap setting. Add in a horn, and the only thing very vintage about these combos is the appearance.
On the 500 combo, turn off the horn, bump the vintage switch, bump a bit of overdrive into it and go all Geezer Butler type vintage tone...
I just found a sure fire way to annoy the neighbors... The output of the pre on the bass is at about 50%... I need to turn down, I practice in a 10x10 room, and I could see the ceiling fan vibrating... I did make the mistake of twisting the gain up to about noon, and the master to 3 o clock. Just advice for anyone with this amp practicing at home in a small room. DO NOT DO THAT! I am lucky I did't break anything, or myself...
