The story of this thread: I want to buy a new CD, but I just don't know what yet. This is a way for me to find out what I still need to buy, without saying "here is a collection of all my 50 or so CD's!" and die typing. Thanks.

    "50 or so CDs"?
    Man, you're a lightweight. ;)

    Looking at Jon's list-
I have just about everything on it(for some reason, I never bought Heart Of The Bass).

As far as a "Bass cd"-
I would recommend Gary Willis' Bent(especially over Champion...BTW, I thought Berlin had a 2-fer out called Crossroads? That may include Champion & his 2nd solo disc, Pump It).

Everybody should own The Beatles' Revolver...

Most of those aren't really bass CD's.

Here are some of those that I have:

    Heavy Weather
I have Bassic Collection from Stanley Clarke which includes the song School Days
    Kind of Blue
    Frizzle Fry
    Freaky Styley

Here are some from your list that I should probably buy:

    Moving Pictures
    Ah um
    Giant Steps
    Heart of the Bass
    da Bomb

I used to have Synchronicity, lost it, but I can tell you that that's not a bass CD.

The rest of those CD's are probably not essential, at least for a bassist.

    Thanks for the advice.
  5. I think RHCP-Blood Suger Sex Majik would keep you in the woodshed more than Freaky Styly, but just MHO

    Have 'em both.

Never heard Yes, but definatly not Led Zeppelin.

Not even close to classic bass CD's.

    I'll check it out.

    I'll check it out.

    Thanks again all.

That band is so weak. It's unbelievable how popular they are.

No one has mentioned any Michael Manring CDs. They certainly would qualify as "bass CDs" as would Vic Wooten's solo work. I'm also a Stu Hamm admirer.

How about some Violent Femmes? They are a very bass dominated rock band.

I can second this album. Two killer bassists.

JMX, can you reccommend any other Dominique Di Piazza albums? That is the only one I have.

    Some more bass albums:

-Paul Simon "Graceland" and "Rhythm of the Saints"
-Edie Brickell & the New Bohemians "Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars"

There is Frontpage - Frontpage w/ Bireli Lagrene and Dennis Chambers - SMOKIN'

He also has another album called "Hymns" but I haven't heard that one yet, you can only get it on his website IIRC.
  19. Is there bass on And Justice for All?

  20. Talas - Sink Your Teeth, and Live Speed On Ice

Look for Billy Sheehan - The Talas Years, has both albums on one CD
