Are new basses usually announced at NAMM shows? I'm fairly new to bass playing, haven't known what was available, and seem to have missed out on some things I would have liked to get if I had known about them. Also - any rumors, speculation, or inside scoops?
Well, what did you miss out on? Kind of sounds vague. Everything most bass guitarists needs are available to buy new, sometimes used, or can be ordered or custom made.
I would have liked to have gotten a Squier Mustang bass - new. I guess I can look for a used one, but if I had known about them, I would have gotten one before they were recently discontinued. Anyways - about the original question: Are new basses usually announced at NAMM shows?
Sometimes. Usually companies just show off newly made instruments (hoping to get them sold). New colors and options may be offered.
I'm pretty sure the Fender Mustang is still available. http://www.fender.com/basses/mustang/ Check you local retailer, but if that is not possible, order directly from Fender.
Yes, lots of new gear gets announced during NAMM. The problem is, just because it's announced doesn't mean it's available to the public. There's lots of over-promising and under-delivering from NAMM. As already said, it's best to check with retail stores first to see if the new gear is actually available.
I got a Fender Mustang recently - love it. If you read post #3 again though, you'll see that I was talking about the Squier (not Fender) Mustang.
