(still can't figure out how to post pics in the msg - oh well, if anyone here can, please help)

anyways, i cruised the Fender official site today, and checked out the Summer NAMM pics

lo, there were these two shots of this Custom Shop six - looks like a cross between a:

    1) Carl Thompson body/headstock (a la Les)

    2) Standard F-Bass with a maple board

    3) An RBV or Fodera with open coil Aero 6 humbuckers

    4) Marcus Miller 4 with the volume/volume/treble/bass setup

did anyone actually see or play this bass at the show?

and now that Fender is actually publishing shots of these freakazoids, does anyone know if there is an offical archive of their Custom Shop creations?

I like it. I'd have to play it to pass final judgement, but I like it.

I played it. Wasn't bad, the neck joint was a gigantic block. $7400. Next.

Ugh,, Personally I think the body looks hideous. $7400 huh? Puhleeze,,,,...

  10. Or 43.529(ish) Squier P-Basses! :smug:

If it were cheaper, I may consider it. Like a lot cheaper. I don't think its that bad looking though.

I didn't think it looked bad either... it's just that I know way too many folks who can take a pile of raw wood and do it for a lot less. Then again 50 years from now...

That's the first Fender that's even gotten my attention for years. But $7400 is a joke. Especially these days, when there are a number of people who could hand-make absolutely killer instruments for less than half that.

    brad - i had a feeling you'd been there...

    >>the neck joint was a gigantic block.

man - why does fender do that? the rest of the free world has found a way around it (by rounding it! ;)

that's what i never liked about my RBV - the neck block just killed my palm - nasty block in the horn...

    neptoon -

    >>man, that's just nuts. fender can't build a custom shop bass for cheaper than that? pleez....

dude - i sounded the custom shop to try and get a Custom Classic V in either natural or black (as opposed to ice metallic blue) - and they wanted $5K to START with...

and these are advertised in Frontline! yow!!!!

    oh well...

hey all you Fenderworld custom freaks - anyone check out AtelierZ lately (the website?)

those guys are gettin' BIIIIZZZEEEEE on the models - they've easily added a dozen new models in the last year

i know the 5's have been reviewed and hyped here, but have you checked out their new 6 models?

    lookin' taaaasty....

that thing is friggin ugly. It's also got too many strings. I wouldn't buy/play that thing @ any price. I'm a huge Fender fan, by the way.
