The one thing that has been sorely lacking in my bass lineup is a good, passive jazz bass. I have an active Elrick NJS, which is still my favorite. But that passive jazz tone is what really makes me smile (I never should have sold that Suhr J ). I've been looking at a bunch of options and almost pulled the trigger on a Fender Adam Clayton Signature Jazz. But in the end, I knew what I really wanted... So I called my buddy John at Bluesman Vintage Guitars, just outside of Nashville. He's going to be building me a BMV El Dorado (his version of a traditional jazz) in a gorgeous Shell Pink with matching headstock, white pearl pickguard, paulownia/empress body, Hipshot Ultralite tuners (lollipop, of course) and a rosewood fingerboard. It's going to be a lightweight beast. The cool thing about this bass is that it will be what John calls a "pretty bass," meaning, there will be no relic. I still need to make my final decision on the pickups. I'm going for classic 60's vintage tone. Bluesman winds a really nice pickup themselves. But, I'm open to suggestions, TB. So everyone hold your breath for the NBD in roughly 4-6 (or more) months... lol.
I ended up changing the specs of the build to something completely different. But last year, I was able to complete my El Dorado. Here’s the NBD when i got it. Not pink, but a killer bass… lightweight with blocks & binding. I really love it!
