It has been over ten years since I last owned an American Fender. I sold my '74 P a while back due to a momentary lapse of reason. Since then I have tried countless Fenders but was never really impressed until now. This is everything I could want in a jazz style bass. The craftsmanship is excellent and shows a definite QC improvement, every '08 that I have tried is practically flawless. The neck plays better than any production Fender I have played...including my '74 . As for the tone, it's full and round and gives me just the right amount of punch. Even after stringing it with chromes it can really growl. As for complaints, I guess the only thing is the case. It is solid and it will protect my bass better than anything short of a flight case...but I'm a bit of a traditionalist. Where's the tweed? Honestly, I'm pretty picky and I can't find a thing. I'm sure something will pop up once the honeymoon is over (hey, Jazz, how come you don't make breakfast like you used to?) but for now it's golden. Seriously, the only problem with this new line is that now I'm gonna have to buy an '08 P as well. I had a tough time deciding between the P and the J and only went with the J for the sake of versatility. Now I'm gassing for the charcoal/maple P . Cheers, Burnz
Thanks Craig, it is certainly not going to win any awards for originality but it works. The color wasn't a tough choice for me since this was the only one at my local retailer with a rosewood fretboard. It is unfortunate that they don't make these in a natural finish. This bass in a natural/rosewood/tort combo would be the bomb.
