{} Picked this up yesterday. Does anybody have a suggestion where to find a hard shell case for this?
I'm not finding anything out there. Even a really good gig bag would help. But I would really prefer a case for this.
Awesome looking bass guitar. Hope it sounds as good as it looks. You're thread reminded me of this video. Though this guy makes everything look easy.
Very nice! Thanks for posting. Can you describe the sound of these basses? Is that a humbucker at the neck?
That's one well-preserved Epi! Congrats on obtaining it. I played one in a GC a few weeks ago and got reminded how well-built these basses were. A joy to play. To those asking about the pickup, it's the exact same pickup used in Gibson's EB series from that time, Sidewinder aka Mudbucker. Love it or hate it, there's nothing else like it. Play that Newport in good health and enjoy!
That extra cover just suggests a solid thumb mount for some serious finger picking right in front of the bridge on those nylon strings. Sound sample?
I removed the tapwound strings and put on some Labella’s. It sounds very close to my aluminum upright. It’s actually my backup.
Michael Davis, former bassist for the MC5 played one of these in later years as bassist for Detroit’s Destroy All Monsters. There’s a lot of love/desire for those basses. Must have something to it besides just being older.
A ton of guts soundwise, and some very nice, tight-grained mahagony on all of the ones that I've played. Very lovable instruments IMO.
