While minding my own business, not looking for anything.... I ran across this one at a local music shop. I was not really excited until I played it and then I lost my mind. Has some minor scuff marks on the back otherwise its pristine. Flats on it now, set up is awesome . Its quite light with a little neck dive. I was shocked at how much punch these tiny pickups have. Everything about it is just so fantastic. Came with a nice hard case as well.
Made in Japan. That makes it likely to be equal to (or even better than) a USA Fender of the same era.
I had a red one for a long while and it rocked too. As to Squier, no; they say Fender (star) Bullet on at the time the only original p bass head stock. Good stuff
Those 80's era Japanese squiers are great. I snagged a precision for $80 for my brother in law. It is his go-to for recording. Great find, great bass.
