A while back I sold my Fender 75 RI Jazz MIJ here in the classifieds. It was from 1997 and was the first “real” bass I ever owned. I gigged that bass pretty hard and and it was certainly a road tested bass. Lots of great shows were played on that bass and it had a lot of sentimental value to me. I probably shouldn’t have sold it, but needed the money at the time and reluctantly let it go.

Over the weekend, I made a visit to Brian’s Guitars here in Connecticut. Sitting on the showroom floor was a bass identical to the one I sold. Beautiful natural finish, rosewood board, block inlays, neck binding, and it even came with a sweet hard case. Only difference is that this one is from 1985 and the pickups have been swapped out for Basslines. The bass is set up wonderfully and in amazing condition for a bass that’s 33 years old. I was very pleasantly surprised and took it home. It’s certainly not an exact replacement for the bass I sold, but it’s a wonderful instrument that plays and sounds superb!

If you’re in the Connecticut area, make sure you check out Brian’s Guitars! He’s doing an excellent job of starting a nice collection of bass gear to sell and everyone at the store is fantastic to deal with. They had a Dingwall, a few vintage Fender bass, a Nash Jazz, a bunch of Fender basses, and some really cool MIJ Fender basses. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area.

    Onto the pictures!

Happy for your reunion of sorts! Love bound and blocked rosewood necks. Enjoy.

  5. It's not from 1985... More likely a mid 1990s model. The serial numbers on MIJ are very inconsistent and not especially useful for dating an instrument. Great looking bass though

    Yup, it's more like a 97 or 98
