just picked this up at our locsl fb market place. it’s a 1997 MIJ 51pbass. the guy only wanted $300 so i had to get it. the neck is chuncky but i feel comfortable playing it. been wanting one in forever and finally got one. missing a pickguard but ordered a replacement right away. im really diggin it. You know...

It doesn't look terrible without a pickguard. ;)
  10. Yeah, but they look a lot more like what they are with the proper PG than without IMO.

color me green with envy, you lucky dog! I'd just make the plate holes less obvious or get a clear pickguard to maintain that luscious visual. congrats on jumping on the deal of the day.

Looks more like a '54 RI to me. Either way, great score!

Nice score! Does the neckplate say Fender on the upper part and does it have the larger ferrules on back of the body? May be an early 1990's model as the early ones had these features as well as no route channel under the pickguard.
