I grew up pretty poor as a kid. My older brother and I used to look thru guitar mags and catalogs and lust after the various musical instruments that our heroes played. This was the 80's, and at the time I was playing a lot of Bon Jovi, Ratt, etc. Charvel basses were high on the list, but I never thought I would ever be able to own one. FF to today, this was so cheap it was practically an impulse buy. It's time to get Naughty Naughty!! https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tnMz_AMBx9c&ved=2ahUKEwi6s5yHw_rpAhXQmq0KHS6xCcAQjjgwCXoECAoQAQ&usg=AOvVaw37z26buZ3WBU8Xuqidz5Tn&cshid=1591904714750
cool score! thankfully I'm still a poor boy and a recent Charvel kook after having found a killer Charvette 2x4 for $100 that had I been richer I likely would have stupidly ignored the silver spud cos it ain't sexy, but sure sounds right, the perfect PJ for my tastes. never heard of'm, wish I'd lucked out long ago.
Same here used to collect brochures & copies of Peavey Monitor, & read all the specs and look at the pictures for hours.
Nice bass. Also, with the catalogs, that would be me with Carvin catalogs. I grew up not far from them when they were in Escondido. Kept hoping that they would make a P-bass. - 30 years later - Finally a P-bass, oh wait I can't get it without a pickgaurd. I give up. I see know that they can and my wish for a Carvin has been gone for a long time. They still have some of the best finishes though.
My son (born in 1998) loves '80s metal. Trouble is he can't find anyone his age to play with - no on else is into it. He found a terrific Jackson bass a couple years ago, Dave Ellefson model. What a sweet bass. Congrats on the Charvel.
My very first bass was that exact model (purchased for playing in a Hair Metal band, naturally). It even had the same candy apple red paint job. The only difference was that mine had the older guitar shaped Charvel logo on the headstock. In retrospect, I never should have sold it. Thankfully, I still have my old garage band recordings.
Nice score! I had that bass in dark blue sparkle. It had such Killer 80s low end through my Hartke 4x10 1x15 stack.
Nice! Ive got a 475 Deluxe Charvel guitar that satisfies my "drooling over catalogs as a kid" itch. Its a well made piece, though I gutted the original Jackson active pickups which really sounded awful and put in a Lace Sensor setup. Its 2 gold sensor singles and red/hot-red double with push/pull to isolate the hot coil in the bridge.
Love it! Congrats man! I love the pointy headstocks on those 80s basses. I would love to add a Charvel or Jackson to my collection.
