In the last 2 months, I've ordered a custom NYC Sadowsky and a custom Moon Larry Graham 5-string (in a lovely navy blue). As a result, I've been selling off a bunch of basses to free up the cash to pay for those.

I didn't think it through. Those basses won't be ready til spring of 2021. Yet my only 5-string (a beautiful Sandberg MarloweDK) sold this weekend. And I still need a 5-string for the next 6+ month. :rollno:

So I went hunting for something with a good sound and a decent ability to resell, once my custom basses are completed. I was shocked when I ran across this one on Reverb.

This is a 30th Anniversary Music Man Stingray 5 with a rosewood neck. I've owned a couple of the maple neck versions of this bass, but could never find the rosewood... and for some reason, those basses were always 10+lb (why I always ended up selling them). This one is a lovely 8.5lb. Plus, the back of the neck is a nice quilt/flame without being too over-the-top.

I can't wait to get it home and plug it in. Something tells me it might be more difficult than I had hoped to let this go when the time comes. I guess we'll see.

Nice. You're going to like it more than you think.

And maybe it's time to get a new scale. That's a pound lighter than my lightest EBMM.

It’s hard to believe, but 8lb 8oz exactly is what the trusty mail-scale at my office says. Same as the sellers scale. Most of my basses are in that range and it feels like them. I’ve owned a lot of Stingrays and never had one this light. Crazy, but awesome!!

If you do decided to sell it, I'll take it. I'm beginning to save up now.

    I'm not kidding.

Beautiful! But methinks you have a roasted maple neck there.

    I’m all ears!..::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

    (I am serious, though...:D)

  12. @burgerdj is correct. Neck is Roasted Maple, not Rosewood. The fretboard is rosewood.

OP, unless you are 100% dedicated to Jazz Bass tone, why not keep this sweet SR5?

Wow, very nice. I suppose the roasted neck might make it a little lighter?

Lighter weight is a trend with the newer Stingray Specials. There are still some SR5 Specials over 10 pounds and in the high 9's, but a fair number are down in the 8's. I've even seen some 4 string models come in under 8 pounds.

It would be terrible to fall in love with a StingRay. Just awful.

I just got done playing it for the first time and that is definitely a possibility. The rosewood fingerboard makes a surprising difference in tone compared to the maple ones I used to have. It's much warmer. Sounds really nice.

    I guess time will tell.

Haha. To be fair, my '40 Days of Bass' experiment ended on November 1st. I fared pretty well, but not perfect. I practiced pretty consistently & didn't shop the sites. I did place 2 bass orders, though. Of course, they won't be ready til sometime next year, so they don't count, right?

    (Ok. I failed miserably.) :rollno:
