Or walnut whale. This bass has been eluding me for 4 years. This very bass (3 of 7) slipped from my cash strapped fingers years ago when BassStringsOnline had it on sale. I wanted it very much, but couldn't get the cash together before he sold it. Last year someone here had one in the classifieds, but again a lack of funds due to an unexpected tax bill meant it was sold before I could get it My 3 of 7 ended up at a GC, where the young guy I purchased it from last night got it. He had no idea that it is an LTE and sold it like it was any other Euro 5LX. His loss is my gain. I restrung it and set it up the moment I got home. I can hear a difference already between it and my other Euro 5LX, that I bought when the LTE in tbe TB classifieds slipped through my fingers last year. I am really digging it. Pics:
Very nice. From the title, I was expecting a white singlecut bass, though. Spector is definitely on my list as well. That snarl.
Yeah, this is a sweet Spector, I have 3 Euro5 LX basses so I get it...play it like you stoled it, you kinda did, and look me up when you are ready to move her...I know, I know, that'll never ever happen ;-) Enjoy! Rock on.
Very nice and very happy for you that you were able to grab the white whale that has eluded you for so long. I know the feeling and I am still hurting over a pristine Ripper that got away from me. Enjoy!
I got to play it at practice last night. My ears weren't playing tricks on me. It definitely has a little more mid growl than me other 5XL. I really think it weights less and that the neck is thinner. Super comfortable to play. The band really liked it too. I'm very happy right now.
I was trying to find out what the construction is. I don't think the top is actually Walnut, I thought it was referring to the custom color, but maybe I'm wrong. The body is definitely a separate top and back, but I thought both were ash with a oil stain. Walnut is a very heavy wood, and this bass feels lighter than my regular 5LX despite being the same thickness. I might have to email Spector for the specs.
Keep us posted! Would love to know what it is! Wise edit: I don 't think it' s ash! (alder body? maple top?)
It was sort of hard to get the details out of Spector, and their website isn't setup well for finding information about older basses. The rep on FB said the construction of this 2015 LE is more or less the same as the current Euro 5LX, just with a different stain and EMG electronics. So the body would be European alder with a maple top and a "slice of walnut in between" (according to their website.) This may be in contrast to my 2002 Czech Spector, which maybe all maple if it is a Euro5 and not a Euro5LX. That would explain why it is a tad heavier and sounds a little different. I need to get out my scale and measuring tape to see if the specs are the same.
