NBD - Ernie Ball Musicman Sterling

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Eon Sky, Dec 10, 2018.

  1. After much research and forum searching, I pulled the plug and picked up a MusicMan Sterling 4H Piezo. As you can see from the pictures below, this thing has been "well loved" by the previous owner. I actually kind of like the wear on the tuning keys. I did give it a fresh set of strings and a fretboard clean, because I'm pretty sure I could have grown a bass player off of the DNA that was left behind on both of those things.

Serial number dates it to June/July of 2000.

She may not be the prettiest example, but she's a player for sure, and she's mine now! Bonus last picture for my completion of the Leo Trifecta.

  2. Nothing wrong with that! :) Nice birdseye coming through on the headstock.
    Enjoy it! :)

  5. Yeah, the piezo was what took it from "I can wait for the perfect specimen" to "I need to get this one". And playing it? Hoo buddy, it's nice.

  7. Congratulations - nice group of basses.

The combination of the ceramic pick up, and the series/single coil/parallel switch makes for a range of sounds - and the piezo adds another very cool dimension. That will be a very versatile bass.

Looks like the saddles were replaced and are not the original ones.

And to nitpick - in order for it to be a "Leo Trifecta" - it really would have to be a Stingray ;)

Sterling 4H - back in 2000 we just called that a ‘Sterling’!

Super nice bass and congrats on scoring a piezo one! Don’t see many of those around.

They’re piezo saddles - they’re a different shape than the usual ones.

Congrats on the Sterling. I have not seen one of these piezo models in person. Looks great in the pic.
And your trio there makes a most excellent lineup.
