NBD - Fender Aerodyne MIJ 2014

I paid about $1100 Australian for mine so that's the usual differential. I did just notice this that I've scratched the back of mine, I had it in a rack and its been bumping against the bridge of my Ray34 - what an idiot.
Mine came with two dings on the back of the body. I reckon with the body being basswood more dings are coming in the future.
The MIAs get the neck without dot markers. That's the main reason I went MIJ, I'm not good enough to judge position without a bit of assistance.
Here in Australia the MIAs are selling New for something like US$1000. Way Too much in my book.
I buy my basses with dings. Saves me a lot of trouble.

There are two primary models of Aerodynes, the standard "AJB" models like Aaron's and the "Deluxe" models. Deluxe Aerodynes have no pickguard or face dots on the fretboard. However, there are two subsets of Deluxe models. If it has a Stratocaster-style jack, it's an "Export Edition", as in they are the models meant to be exported to places outside Japan. If it has the more common, flush-mounted jack, it's a "Non-Export Edition" and looks like this…
If it's not an "Export Edition", they're usually only available in Japan, unless you pay the extra cost of shipping. If one is found outside Japan, it's been specifically imported. Regardless of whether it's an Export or Non-Export model, Aerodynes are only produced in Japan. Currently, as well as in the past, there are no "MIA Aerodynes". But now that the FMIC/Kanda-Shokai joint venture has been dissolved, who knows what fate awaits the Almighty 'Dyne. FMIC is calling all the shots now.
I hate to be an alarmist, but while writing this post, I checked out Fender's Japanese site and what I saw is rather disturbing. Only two models are still being listed…the six-string Stratocaster and the lefty Jazz bass model. It makes me suspect the Days of the 'Dyne might be coming to an end…and oh how I hope to be proven dead wrong!

Mellow down easy if you really wanna blow your top
I just bought an Aerodyne this week and am I impressed. This puppy plays like a dream. The neck is super fast in the setup from the store wass pretty much spot on. That's impressive since most every bass I demoed at the Guitar Center had crappy set ups. I put a set of flats on it and am super pumped about the tone, (and the range of tone), I'm hearing. Cranked it up with the band last night and it just sang. My first passive bass in decades. Fit and finish is, as far as I can tell, pretty much perfect. I couldn't be happier.
I've played around with the Aerodyne for the last few months at home and at band practice and now know that I'm not a Jazz bass guy. I don't like the feel of the skinny neck or the shape of the body. The enlogated "butt" of the body annoys me when I play it. Sound wise it's pretty good, but I prefer the sound of my Yamaha BB1024 which also has a P/J pickup design. So I think I'm going to put it on the local market and try to sell it ASAP.
