Thanks to a post I left in the “What Basses Are You Hankering For” thread, Talkbass user Facethemusic reached out to me offering this beautiful instrument. Thank you again for contacting me. It’s an AVRI 74 Jazz Bass and I have been hunting for this exact makeup for a few months. It’s a classic looking bass and after all of my years playing I’ve never owned a 3TSB bass with the Rosewood/Block Inlay fingerboard. If you’re not familiar with this AVRI Fender series, they are on par with the USA Geddy Lee Basses with a super high quality build and are very reasonably priced. Now the big question.. tortoise shell pickguard or leave it as is ? {} {} {} {} {} {}
Lovely Jazz! I have 2 AVRI Precisions and am a big fan of the series. I would leave the black guard. Would love to score one exactly the same.
I had a jazz with a 1978 or 1979 serial number that I got in 1982. It had a very dark rosewood neck with white/pearloid inlays like that. The rosewood was so dark it looked like ebony. The body and pickguard were black. Yours looks fantastic.
@57pbass I would also love a sonic or daphne blue model with rosewood and blocks. Maybe I should post like you did! One of my AVRIs is a 57P.
The funny thing is that I had a post for this bass in “Gear Wanted “ a lot longer than the Hankering post.
That looks so good with the black guard. I’m sure tort would be nice as well but holy cow is that ever a looker. I don’t think I’d change a thing. Congrats to you!
I had to go look in the room where I keep my stuff and check that I didn't sell it to you in a blackout. Keep the black.
This is a custom shop with matching headstock. They’re asking $4400. and without the matching headstock $4800. Hard pass from me. {}
I have a ‘99 75 AVRI that I love, and was looking for one of the 74’s as well.. Great basses, and I vote black pickguard.. {}
I wouldn't change a thing!!! That black PG with those block inlays look amazing. Congrats on your new acquisition, great looking bass...
TORT!! I have the Classic Series 70s Jazz Bass (MIM) which has the same cosmetics and I switched out the black one for a tort one and I love the way it looks. Congratulations! That is one beautiful bass and I bet she plays and sounds great.
A similar AVRI Jazz I owned. Loved everything about it except I’m not a fan of natural finishes. It was heavy too! Traded for an American Vintage 63P. {}
