I was casually playing around with the Fender mod shop website (I’ve gotta stop doing that) when I noticed that there was an option for a 70’s neck with white block inlays. Once I got the perfect color combo I just couldn’t say no.

The build ended up taking 6 weeks to complete, so 2 weeks over what they advertise but wow was it worth the wait.

Overall a positive experience and I loveee how it turned out! Unlikely to be the last time I order one of these seeing as how I’m still GASing for something in shell pink or their champagne/purple color

Very nice. Looks like an Adam Clayton crossed wit a Geddy Lee.

    Nice bass!

(I am in trouble if 70s pickup spacing is ever an option.)

Nice! That is gorgeous. Enjoy it.

I am totally hooked on Mod Shop! I have a 2021 P, one of the last ever all rosewood necks with the etched headstock logo! And I have a 2020 Telecaster Deluxe. It's easy to get sucked into the build process. My Telecaster took about 3 weeks trigger to delivery. But I ordered my bass in October and they already were showing holiday closures so it didn't arrive until late January. But still, pretty quick to get what you want.

I learned any dealer who is a Custom Shop dealer can also order Mod Shop instruments. Wait!!! It's not stupid!
I ordered mine through a local dealer and it was exactly the same price, I went to the shop and the guy sat me down at his PC with my credit card and he entered a code. Same price, dealer gets a commission so it is goodwill to your local shop. And I didn't need to worry about it being left at the door because as you probably learned, there isn't a lot of communication. I had NO idea when mine were arriving. So the shop unpacks it, inspects it, and keeps it safe until I pick up.

Anyway, congrats, that is a really sharp bass. Wear it up, repeat.

Looks awesome!! How did you get that headstock option? I swear when I tried the mod shop a while back I could not get that headstock...

-Edit- I went to the Mod Shop website and tried again, I wanted that headstock on a Rosewood Neck which is not an option :(

the mod shop can be rather limited but does occasionally have some limited edition pieces that you can add: I’ve heard of necks with a black headstock, all rosewood necks, and a P bass neck with block Inlays that have been offered in the past. You really just need to check in every now and then to see if they have any new offerings (unless you’re trying to save money since this can be terrible for GAS)

Hey I think I’ve actually seen some of your posts about the mod shop! I actually ordered mine before I saw your post otherwise I would have gone that route of ordering through my local shop. I do agree it’s stressful that they don’t provide any updates until they email you that it’s been shipped. Fortunately I’m still working from home and didn’t have any vacation planned so overall it was a smooth process but I’ll still be going through CME the next time I do this

Those 70’s U jazz necks are my favorite. Thanks for the GAS! Enjoy!

What a great look! Is the "70's neck" similar to that of the USA Geddy Lee Jazz Basses?

Is matching headstock an option or did I just not know where to look?

Unfortunately I haven’t tried the USA Geddy lee so I can’t comment on that, but the neck is CHUNKY

It’s not an option otherwise I definitely would have done that
