So, I called Fender today to ask them about the "Select" pickup on my new Precision. The pickup is ONLY on the Select; it's not the same Custom Shop 62' as in the American Standards. I was interested to hear that the magnetic poles in the PUP are beveled! Sure enough, they are! Slightly raised and beveled! This was done to avoid the poles getting chipped during the manufacturing process. not only sounds sharp, but it looks and feels sharp. I upgraded all of my American Standards with Aguilar AG 4P 60 pickups. But, I'm thinking about seriously keeping these. What a work of art!

I have one of these and love it. Gave mine the 50's look. Definitely a keeper. How ya like that compound neck? comfy right?
I have thought about changing out the pickup but then think why? this one sounds great and sets it apart from my other pbasses. Great score. Congrats

I love it. It's definitely the crown Jewel of my collection. Fender told me that the magnetic poles are slightly raised and beveled, and it does sound good. What pickup were you thinking about, before you decided to keep it? I have Aguilar P pups in my other Fenders, and I'm entertaining the idea of putting an AG 4P-Hot in this one. The stock pup does sound really good, though.

I was eye balling a Klein 58 or 59 pickup and I still might give it a shot just for the heck of it. www.kleinpickups.com/

Let us know how you like the Klein, if you go that route?

    I have a Lull V4 with Fender Select p/u.

There really is something to these Fender Select p/u being unique.

Don't know what it is, but the combo of this particular Lull with the FS single coils is nothing short of Wow.

Never tried Kleins and you tube demos are scarce.

    Thanks!

So you'd consider replacing the Pup? I'm teetering on ordering that Aggie Hot Pup! Just not sure.

Updates on the bass? Still loving it?

These things are so intriguing..they look fantastic and yet somehow there's little info and still quite a few on the used market. Even though they were a limited run. And at $1200-2000 odd there's deals to be had!

    Beautiful. Love these.
    I'm co-owner of it's big brother, a 2011 'American Design' P/J active/passive one-off build. One of my favorite basses…
