Well, I finally took the 'plunge', ordering a Precision (Standard, MIM) from Chicago Music Exchange, about 2 weeks ago. It arrived this past Thursday, unscathed, for the most part (see pics, below), via UPS... I was a little wary, as I haven't used UPS in awhile, but their handling of both the bass and case should be commended... actually, there were no apparent tracking issues, either, so...

    ... dilly, dilly.

I present to you... the box, outside... the box...

    ... and... the other box...

... in my excitement of it arriving, I assumed the box with the Fender logo was the bass, and the box with the 'fragile' label was the case... I know, I know. Opening the former first, I told the wife, 'Honey, I think they shipped me two cases!'. (A mind is a terrible thing to... something, or other...)

Of course, she replied with a 'standard' retort, familiar to most bass-hoarding members of this forum...

"How many are you up to, now?". And yet, I still love her...

Good thing I read the label on this first...

... not exactly sure if these are good with coffee, or on a salad, but I'll pass... this time.

Speaking of labels... and what's up with this? What about the other states? Do Cali residents get a different box?

For those questioning Fender's return policies, there it is... right on the box...

... I'm from the government... I'm here to help.

Enough, already... the bass, nestled inside a very nice case...

... and, by itself, in all of it's Candy Apple Redness...

Specs, for those not in the know... which is like 3 members, who haven't signed up, yet:

    Series: Standard series
    Body: Alder
Neck: Maple, modern C shape, gloss urethane finish
Fingerboard: Maple, 9-1/2" Radius (241 mm)
    Frets: 20 Medium-jumbo frets
Pickups: 1 Standard Precision Bass split single-coil pickup (Mid)
    Controls: Volume, Tone
Bridge: Standard vintage style with single groove saddles
    Machine heads: Standard
    Hardware: Chrome
    Pickguard: 3-Ply Parchment
    Scale Length: 34" (864 mm)
Width at Nut: 1-5/8" (41.3 mm)
Unique features: Knurled chrome P Bass knobs, Fender transition logo
    Strings: Fender Super Bass 7250ML, NPS Gauges: .045, .065, .080, .100

Honorable mention to my rep at CME, for a job well done... discounted both bass and case, offered 'free' 2 day shipping, and delivered on that, as well. I did experience a less than 'minty' (see recent thread) experience, though... a minor scratch and a couple of dings on the side of the bass (center of each pic), which my rep again took care of, in the form of an after sale discount...

... as I've said before, it's amazing how having kids will calm the OCD down considerably, but I have still have my principles...

... and I really like this bass... tuned it up, put it through it's paces and for straight out of the box, I'm convinced CME might have actually done a setup on this, before it shipped.

After strapping it, it felt pretty light and well balanced... a better description would be comfortable. I took it upstairs, weighing it using the bathroom scale method...

... 8 lbs. I'm guessing it's the alder... and I really need to get off this site. I can't even lie, saying I'm done...

... take care, guys and gals, and thanks for stopping by!

Love it! Awesome choice...doesn’t get more classic than maple/CAR. Your thread has given me the first whiff of GAS I’ve had in quite some time...

    I'm big on maple fretboards.
Only bass I have with rosewood is my Dean Exotica acoustic.
I guess you don't need me to tell you how good that looks!

Gotta love California. Everything on Earth is killing us, and we didn't know it until the government told us. :roflmao: (Excuse me. My eyes rolled across the room. Let me fetch them and I'll be right back.)

    That's a good looking bass.

The box said "Fragile". Now go beat it like it isn't! :bassist:

That I'm unsure of, but could be... the case for the '15 GL Sig is definitely different from this one.

A great Precision, and I like your choice of a case to keep it in also.

Oh, it's going to get played... I've learned that I'm more of a, "Thank you very much, but I'll put my own dings into this thing.", as opposed to having them presented to me, but... it is what it is... a very nice bass...

... at a discounted price point. And yes, @two fingers ... I'm all about the box, too..

  18. Yay, Spidey!!! You even got a discount for the factory installed "mojo starter kit". The only thing that has me confused is that you said your wife "replied with a "standard" retort", yet the case hadn't yet been opened in order for her to re-tort the bass. Upon further inspection, a re-tort would not be possible at this time, because there is no tort to replace. Pity. :roflmao:
