Thanks to Greg at Rocket Music for working with me on this. This is a G&L MJ-5 with Empress body in Clear Forest Green with body binding and fretless maple fingerboard. Just unpacked, sounds very nice unplugged. Looking forward to putting it through its paces.

Wow. How's the board? I have a 1977 Fretless maple precision and always thought of getting a modern version. Love the look.

According to Greg at Rocket, 7.7 lbs., and I think he's right on the money.

The board feels great. I used to own a '74 Precision with a fretless maple board, and that was sort of the inspiration for this bass. I'm a little concerned about using rounds on it, and may change the factory strings to flats, but then again, it was built to be played.

Did it come with rounds or half rounds? I'm pretty sure it was rounds, but I forget now. G&L will often put half rounds on anything other than Ebony....

That said, I've got La Bella low tension flats on my Lull fretless, and I love it.

Reading the description I did not expect to like it, but that is kind of gorgeous! Much lighter than any G&L I've looked at, too- you are a lucky man!

Hi Jim ! What a beauty!

Yes! I will never understand why fretlessplayers are afraid that strings will make their fretboard look "used"!
I use exclusively rounds on mine, because of their sound (choosing strings to protect the fretboard? :rollno: :banghead:)

I think basses are made to play and I like them when they look like players!:):):)

    congrats and happy NBD :bassist:

may the bass be with you

    Greg,

They are rounds(D'Addario EXL170s). On your recommendation, I might try the LaBella flats.

  19. If you're a native, fretless slap funker I sure hope you'll make some audio samples to share with us before putting flats on it.
