    Simply WOW !!

NBD 2021 Gibson NR in VOS Soot Sparkle. Soot Sparkle is a perfect name for this custom color. With the Nitrocellulose Lacquer VOS [Vintage Original Spec](Vintage Patina) the guitar has a great smoke lacquer finish that changes depending on lighting and the small sparkles catch your eyes much like soot/embers do in a dying fire. I can only imagine how this looks in lights on a stage.

Equally important is the wide variety of tones this monster provides with the 60's neck spacing and the tone knobs for both pickups. The is bass definitely achieves a more beefy/thick tone than the standard NR. (I compared it with my own standard 2021 faded pelham blue NR.)

For those that are inquisitive I have included a basic measurement of the standard NR pickup placement and the VOS placement. I tried to get pics that show the soot sparkle but it is hard to capture.

I believe this may be the first time Gibson has used the VOS treatment/specification on a bass guitar.

That is a beautiful bass, I have a Sparkling Burgundy but like that even better.

Really cool! Are there two volume and two tone knobs?

That's wicked cool! I have a Inverness green one that I moved the neck pickup back about half a inch to 60s spacing I can vouch for the more focused and aggressive tone. It also sports a 60s tailpiece. Gibson stealing my stuff 20220517_091818.jpg 20220517_081757.jpg 20220517_083720.jpg

  6. Nice! It’s interesting that they used a tailpiece with a 3 point bridge.

Old Greco/Orville idea used from the 70s-90s. That's where I got the idea from.

Great score, I love the finish! Congratulations!

Maybe Gibson will offer them in this configuration as a stock bass in the future.

I've never gotten very excited about a black bass, but that one's hot.

I’ve always wondered why they called this a “non-reverse” thunderbird, considering the body shape is totally different than the regular “reverse” one.

    Either way, nice basses!!
