I found a great deal locally on a Greco PMB-800 vintage 1986! This is a Japanese copy of the Rickenbacker 4001, specifically the one used by Paul McCartney (thus "PMB", or Paul McCartney bass). So far, it's amazing! It sure sounds like the Ric to me. The price was $800! Not too shabby.
I've been hankering for another vintage style Rick ever since I sold my 4001v63, saw one of these pop up recently, and though not quite as good of a deal, might need to nab it!
Congrats !! I know you’ve been desiring a Ric and I’m glad you found something that you like. Looks good on your avatar next to that buttercream Jazz .
Congrats. I had one maybe a decade ago. It was a great bass and somewhere around 20-25% of the cost of a factory Ric but just as good.
I love this bass! It sounds great, plays great. Super happy with it! Thanks, LDT! It's an amazing bargain, I think.
It has rounds on it now... but I have flats ready to put on at some point. I generally prefer flats, but I wanted to see if the rounds grew on me.
After reading some more and seeing your post, I pulled the trigger and am waiting for this one to ship out from Japan! Ended up around $720 before shipping, not bad in my mind! My Greco Thunderbird II is top notch, so I imagine this one will be as well. With what I saved on this instead of getting another Rick, I think I may be able to pick up another Japanese Rick clone too, with checker binding I happened upon!
Sweet! Great deal. The funky gig bag doesn't provide that much protection, just FYI, so you might want to get a different case/bag.
