    Hi all,

Today I wrapped up a project. Aside from a drill press and hand drill, I used only hand tools. I made many mistakes - one nut slot is cut too deep (darn it), imperfect finish, and a few other gaffes here and there. But…

Sounds great. Feels good. I’m pretty happy with it.

    Photos and specs below.

    Scale: 30”
    Nut width: 1.59”
String spacing at the bridge: 18 mm
    Body: swamp ash
    Neck and fingerboard: roasted maple
    Finish: Tru-Oil (body and neck)
    Pickup: Nordstrand Big Split
    Stings: D’Addario Chromes

Very nice! A good simple design, nothing crazy, built well with good craftsmanship. An excellent first bass project. It'll be a good solid workhorse bass that you can play proudly......while the next one is under construction. Now you can start experimenting with design ideas and better techniques. And always keep this one as your starting point, to compare back against.
  5. Really nice .

Very very nice. Reminiscent of the Wilcock Mullarkey, which is a good thing.

  7. nice work. with the upper horn aligned with 12th fret, there won't be neck dive. Too many projects get that wrong.

  8. Looks like a well crafted project for not having a shop with thousands of dollars in tools.

    Enjoy it!

If you went a bit too deep on one of the nut slots, just use the baking soda/super glue trick!!!! Bass looks killer.

Sounds like you learned a few things, which is what life (and bass building) is all about.

Love the bass... way to go. Eager to see your next creation.

Did you buy the neck and body already shaped or you shaped them by hand. Either way impressive and if the latter super impressive with hand tools only. I know and I have seen a guy here shape a neck under 2 hours but he used to work for Santa Cruz guitars. He also used hand tools and was talking to me.

I made a homemade "thick" bass like this and chose about the same pup location. I named it the FatDaddyVoodooKiller (FDVK) bass. :D

Amazing, I haven't went down the rabbit hole with actually making a bass yet. The neck part scares me.
